Compost : Webinar
November 18, 2020 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
We’ll be running regular webinars on all sorts of farming topics for the rest of the year as part of a programme provided to our members.
Recipes and Techniques for Composting
Compost, ‘mixture of various natural fertilizing ingredients, a compound manure’ according to the dictionary.
Mankind owes its existence to the microbes that transform such ingredients into an available ‘food’ substance for the next members of the soil food pyramid. They are continually breaking down and processing such organic matter in the most extreme of environments. This is their mode of survival, keeping their species alive.
I doubt science will ever get to name or identify them all, their population is so diverse and so numerous. The closest we get to identify a few is harvesting their flowers that appear when soil conditions allow, in the form of mushrooms and toadstools.
Compost making is a true art form in the weirdest of ways. It’s a bit like baking a cake, everything needs to be quantified with just enough nitrogen, carbon, moisture, heat and time to create the perfect result. Not all ingredients are visible with a largest contributor to an aerobic heap being oxygen.
Webinar host, Steve Erickson (Chaos Springs) has discovered some invaluable recipes and techniques and will share with us on Wednesday 18th November at 7.30pm
This is a webinar not to be missed.
