Host an ODPG Workshop or Field Day at Your Farm
Workshops and farm field days are one of the best ways for farmers to exchange farm practices, ideas and information. They give farmers a chance to see other farms in action and for the host farmer a chance to have input on their practices. The ODPG hosts a variety of these events through out the country each year.
We are always looking for more venues and people to host these events. Most farmers know the benefit of attending workshops or field days but some of the greatest benefits come from hosting such an event. You may not think there is anything special or interesting about your farm, but every farm is unique and there is always a lot to be learned by a gathering at your property.
So now that we have convinced you to put on an event at your farm here is what you need to know.
First, put together a workshop outline, what you want to do and what you hope to achieve. This could be as simple as:
- I want to host a farm field day and get people to come to my farm to share ideas.
- I want to host a farm field day facilitated by an expert in mixed cover cropping.
- Or as elaborate as I want to have a three-day event on creating a model for future agriculture with speakers from all over the world in order to save the world from most certain doom.
Obviously the first would be much easier than the third, but there is a great deal of scope in between. You can also just put your hand up to host a day and leave the rest to us, which many of you have already done Ideally, we prefer you know what YOU would like to get from your field day.
Now just pick a place and a date and email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will get in touch to work out the details. We look forward to hearing from you!
