Focus on John King

Farming is the most complex profession there is.

John KingOn November the 9th, the inspirational John King will be running an important ODPG Workshop on Holistic Planned Grazing. So this month we’ll be focusing on John King’s studies into Holistic Farming with some wise words from the man himself.

Here’s a King article from September 2017 about farmer innovation and change, and the influential people he has met along the way who made him look at farming from different angles.

“Changing how you see the world creates bigger opportunities than changing what you do.

(Graham)Tate stated, “95 per cent of problems on farms are not financial or technical, they are social. They result from communication, relationships, and trust issues between husband and wife, father and son, farmer and bank manager”. That made all the difference to someone bored with technical subjects. I began focusing on a world of farmer innovation and change. Outliers became more important than averages or means because that is where true creativity lies.”

HOLISTIC PLANNED GRAZING WORKSHOP : NOV 9th – CAMBRIDGE, WAIKATO

If you don’t have a well-functioning soil surface you’ll invariably be spending money trying to fix it. On this course, we will look at the problems and opportunities you face with pastures, soils, water quality, weeds and pests, and how your farm would benefit if these were addressed. You’ll build an awareness of what to look for in the paddock, and how to relate your findings to landscape function.
