The NZ Dairy industry has been slow to take up the organic standards, but things are finally starting to move as the bigger organisations make the change.
Brendan Hoare from OANZ has noticed a recent shift, and says the major organic growth of organics in NZ was seen in the wine and kiwifruit industries.
“But watch out, here comes dairy. They are talking to each other which is wonderful, about best practice, best extension — we talk about moving away from commodity level and into branding. I don’t think many people understand the conversation about what that means. Horticulture is a great example of where they do know.”
